SPA 24 HOURS 70TH EDITION - ICONS OF SPA
To celebrate the 70th edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa we asked Belgian motoring artist Clovis to draw us some of the most iconic cars that helped write the history of the Belgian endurance classic.

The 1980 Ford Capri of Jean-Michel and Philippe Martin is the second in our series.

The year before – the first time the Spa 24 Hours were held on the new 7 km track – the Martin brothers had taken their first win in the Ardennes, but with several active F1 drivers at the start in 1980 – including Jacques Laffite, Didier Pironi and Jochen Mass - the classic fight between BMW and Ford proved to be a close-fought affair. The Belgian duo trod carefully during the opening hours of the race and only took the lead at 2 am on Sunday morning. Even though their Capri needed a half shaft change with four hours to go, the Martin brothers held on to a slender lead over the leading BMW to conquer their second consecutive win.
