SPA 24 HOURS 70TH EDITION - ICONS OF SPA

SPA 24 HOURS 70TH EDITION - ICONS OF SPA
To celebrate the 70th edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa we asked Belgian motoring artist Clovis to draw us some of the most iconic cars that helped write the history of the Belgian endurance classic.

Fifth is the 1985 BMW 635 CSi

In 1985 the ETCC, of which the Spa 24 Hours were the highlight, was dominated by the fast Volvo 240 and Rover Vitesse. For the race in the Ardennes BMW was confident its legendary reliability could erase their speed deficit. And so it did. By Sunday morning all Rovers had fallen by the wayside, and the leading Volvo was only in third, after gearbox problems.

The BMW Schnitzer Team took a double win, with their 635 CSi in the legendary Genuine BMW Parts livery. The winning #5 car was driven by Roberto Ravaglia and two F1-drivers, Gerhard Berger and Marc Surer.
