Ombra Racing to defend Silver Cup victory at Total 24 Hours of Spa

Reigning Silver Cup winner Ombra Racing will return to the Total 24 Hours of Spa this year to defend its class victory.

As it prepares to begin its landmark 25th year of competition, the Italian outfit has announced plans to run the full Blancpain GT Series with the new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO, the latest spec machine from Ombra's longstanding partner.

The team clinched Silver Cup honours at last year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa with Alex Frassineti, Romain Monti, Andrea Rizzoli and Kang Ling at the wheel. Indeed, the class was the closest-fought in the entire race, with the Ombra car finishing just two seconds clear of its nearest contender. Ombra will remain in the ultra-competitive Silver class this term to contest the five-round Endurance Cup, with drivers for the programme set to be announced shortly.

"2019 is an important year for us,” commented Ombra manager Davide Mazzoleni. “Not many teams can celebrate 25 years of history and we are proud of this achievement.

“We come from a solid season on both the technical and sporting side, closed in good style in Barcelona [with second in class], and we want to start from there. We are aware that the new Huracán EVO will require dedicated development, but we have a very high-level team ready to start working."

Giorgio Sanna, the head of Lamborghini’s motorsport programme, added: "Following the brilliant results achieved together with Ombra in the last three seasons, which also allowed us to work with young talented drivers, we are very pleased to renew this partnership with the new Huracán GT3 EVO."

Preparations for this year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa will begin on Monday 22 July, with the first track action taking place the following day. The festivities will continue on Wednesday 24 July with the annual parade to Spa town centre, quickly followed by practice and qualifying on Thursday and Friday (25/26 July).

The race itself will play out across Saturday and Sunday (27/28 July). A host of exciting support series will precede the main event, while further entertainment – including the Fan Zone and music concert – will run throughout the on-track contest.
